Idaho beef month: Jerome rancher highlights 130 years of cattle industry in the Gem State

For the 25th consecutive year, the governor has declared July “Idaho Beef Month,” recognizing beef as the state’s top agricultural commodity. A Jerome rancher says the industry’s roots in Idaho run deep — and its future depends on the next generation.

A century on the land

Laurie Lickley, owner and operator of Wine Cappell Cattle, LLC in Jerome, has worked the same homestead for more than a century. She said the industry’s history in the state stretches even further.

“As America celebrates 250 years of independence, the Idaho beef industry has recognized over 130 years of the beef business in the state of Idaho,” Lickley said.
