Idaho’s growth is evident across its smaller towns. The state added about 190,600 residents from 2020 to 2025 while its average home value rose above $480,000 (according to Zillow). Weiser turns out for the National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest each June. Lewiston meets two rivers while Rexburg cools off at Rexburg Rapids. Across these towns, river views, local festivals, and affordable homes give newcomers plenty of reasons to stay.
Weiser
Every June, roughly 350 fiddlers arrive in Weiser to compete in the high school gymnasium. The National Oldtime Fiddlers' Contest and Festival has run during the third full week of June since 1953. Blaine Stubblefield, then secretary of the Weiser Chamber of Commerce, started it as the Northwest Mountain Fiddlers' Contest. Competitors now enter eight divisions, and the week brings close to 7,000 people into a town of about 6,000.
