Minidoka historic site gets $8.1M to restore WWII Japanese American incarceration building

A major restoration project is underway at Minidoka National Historic Site in Southern Idaho, aiming to preserve and improve access to buildings tied to one of the nation’s darkest chapters.
Minidoka National Historic Site in Jerome received $8.1 million to restore structures where more than 13,000 Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II. The investment is intended to preserve and maintain the site’s history while improving safety and resources.
The funding comes from the Great American Outdoors Act’s Legacy Restoration Fund, which is backed by energy development revenue and directed toward maintenance needs across the National Park System.
